Holistic Psychotherapy

I work with individuals who are motivated to attain more balance and wellbeing in their lives, and want to overcome symptoms of imbalance in order to experience their full potential. Part of what adults experience as ‘symptoms’ that lead to emotional/mental imbalances and rooted in the past. Long lasting symptoms don’t come out of nowhere. We all have outdated relational templates learned in childhood, that formed in the context of a family environment were emotional attunement, sensitivity and responsiveness was absent. Unfortunately, this leads to deficits in the emotional development, which is key to having meaningful relationships, effective social skills, and life satisfaction in general. The consequence of this is called developmental trauma or small ’t’ trauma which is not necessarily tied to a big event where danger, terror and shock were present; but but with those parts of the individual that felt hurt and wounded in the process of relating with their well intended caregivers.

The consequences of small t-trauma sit in the background of our awareness in the form of debilitating believes about yourself or others, deep disconnection from our inner being, not knowing who we really are, having disjointed/dysfunctional relationships, feeling unworthy, shame and powerless, amongst other things. These forms of trauma differ from PTSD symptoms but in the realm of psychological work they are still relevant because they make you feel stuck and disconnected from yourself and what really matters to you.

Holistic psycotherapy can focus on unlearning and changing deep rooted belief systems that have colored your sense of reality and sense of self, allowing you to access higher levels of integration which translates into feeling more fulfilled and less victimized by your past and your circumstances. If trauma is not the main cause of suffering, therapy can help you illuminate parts of yourself that are hidden, improve your relationships and support growth by expanding your awareness of what is possible.

55 minute in-person/tele-therapy sessions available.

I also offer 90 minute sessions of individual therapy with the following options:

Individual Therapy + Acu-Detox

I offer Acu-detox to those who want extra support at the level of nervous system to improve their overall wellbeing but this particular protocol (NADA-National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) also has proven to be helpful with anxiety, insomnia, PTSD symptoms, addictions (+ recovery), ADD/ADHD and stress in general. This specific protocol targets 5 points on each ear, and these are some of the benefits:

  • Helps you get in touch with yourself and your emotions

  • Balances the sympathetic branch of the nervous system

  • Awakens the inherent healing capacity of your body

  • Teaches your system to calm down (down-regulate)

  • Increases self awareness

  • Reduces reactivity and increases our ability to respond

  • Helps you letting go and be more accepting of who you are

  • Helps you process grief

Individual Therapy + Yoga

With this adjunct to individual therapy I do a further exploration with you based on Yoga principles and mindful movement or postures (often simple) to support your ability to know what is actually happening with you in the present moment, which always involves your psychical or body awareness. Specific movements or sustained postures allow us to access more of us and target chronic ways of holding ourselves that are not supportive of our wellbeing blocking the flow of prana or vital energy in our body creating stagnation in our energy centers. furthermore when we learn to be present and connected to our body we can work through traumatic memory which is held in the body and make space for a new experience to emerge which informs a new way of being in the world.
